WARSAW — A Warsaw man will serve 15 years in prison for dealing drugs.
Joshua Terry Smith, 37, Warsaw, was charged with two counts of dealing methamphetamine, both level 2 felonies. Six additional criminal charges were all dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Smith was sentenced in Kosciusko Circuit Court on Monday, Feb. 12.
For each dealing charge, Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed sentenced Smith to 20 years in the Indiana Department of Correction. Both charges will be served at the same time. The sentence will also be served consecutively to two additional criminal cases.
The last five years of Smith’s sentence was suspended on probation. He has 188 days of jail time credit, plus good time credit as calculated.
Smith must also pay $800 in restitution to the NET 43 Drug Task Force. Reed recommended Smith for participation in Recovery While Incarcerated during his prison sentence.
At sentencing, Smith said he took responsibility for his actions and admitted to having a “significant drug problem.”
“That’s what led me here today,” said Smith. “I want to better myself for my family and get treatment.”
On Feb. 17, 2023, NET 43, Indiana State Police, and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a home in North Webster. Smith was in the home at the time.
According to court documents, while executing the search warrant, officers found 19.4 grams of meth and several ledgers that appeared to be connected to drug dealing.
Smith has two prior convictions for dealing cocaine or a narcotic drug.
