Two Arrested On Drug Charges After Officers Find Over 25 Grams Of Meth

ETNA GREEN — Two people were arrested after officers found over 25 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop.
Keegan Lazo, 35, New Carlisle, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 4 felony; and possession of cocaine, a level 6 felony.
John Douglas Haws, 51, Portage, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 4 felony; possession of cocaine, a level 6 felony; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
On Feb. 16, an Indiana State Police trooper was patrolling near US 30 and SR 19 in Etna Green when he saw a vehicle with expired plates. The trooper pulled the vehicle over and identified its driver as Lazo. Haws was a passenger. A K9 unit at the scene alerted to illegal drugs in the vehicle.
According to court documents, upon searching the vehicle, troopers found 25.7 grams of meth, 3.8 grams of cocaine, and a glass smoking device.
Lazo admitted she was an addict and said the meth in the vehicle belonged to Haws.
Haws denied any knowledge of the drugs, including items hidden in the seat where Haws was sitting.
Lazo and Haws have both been arrested and released on their own recognizance. They have an initial hearing at 8:15 a.m. March 21, in Kosciusko Circuit Court.
