Syracuse Public Library — Seed Library Returns To SPL
News Release
SYRACUSE — The seed library has returned to the Syracuse Public Library. Each family can “check out” up to 10 seed packets. While packets are checked out, there’s no need to return them. Those without library cards can also check out packets.
This year’s seed library features several packets donated by Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds in Mansfield, Mo. There is a good variety of vegetables, melons, herbs and flowers to enjoy.
Those who check out the seeds are encouraged to share photos of their garden with the library. Send them to SPL’s Communications Specialist Sarah Wright at [email protected] and she will share them on the library’s social media pages.
SPL Closes For Staff Day
Syracuse Public Library will close for a staff day on Tuesday, March 19. While the library is closed, patrons can still access digital resources like Hoopla and Libby. Both apps are free to use with a Syracuse Public Library card and offer various digital materials, including e-books, magazines and audiobooks. Hoopla also has television shows, movies, documentaries and music albums. Patrons can also use the Evergreen app to place holds for materials they would like to pick up when the library reopens at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 20.
Children’s Programming
Younger children in first through third grade will learn about St. Patrick’s Day during home school class at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, in the downstairs meeting room. Older students can choose to attend.
Storytime also meets at 10:30 a.m. March 20. Preschoolers will learn a new letter in the alphabet while enjoying games and songs. Afterward, children’s librarian Megan Daumen usually has a letter-themed craft prepared.
In the Garden
In the Garden will discuss the last four chapters of “Entangled Life: How fungi make our worlds, change our minds and shape our futures” by Merlin Sheldrake at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the downstairs meeting room. Those who haven’t finished the book are still encouraged to attend and learn more about fungi. To celebrate finishing the book, members will sample mushroom coffee.
Young Adult Game Night
Young adult game night will play “Exploding Kittens” from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the Rosalyn Jones Room. This kitty-powered card game is all about turning game night into a blast, with the last player left alive winning. For information about this program, email Amber Cox at [email protected].
