Goshen Theater Releases March, April, May Event Calendar

GOSHEN — The Goshen Theater, 216 S. Main St., has released its March, April and May monthly event calendar. For more information, contact the Goshen Theater box office by calling (574) 312-3701 or by emailing [email protected]. Box office hours are 12-4 p.m. Tuesday to Friday.
Saturday, March 23: Art House Presents: Goshen And Dragons
Whether you are a new or long-time player, take part in great adventures playing Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition with old and new friends alike, guided by Dungeon Masters from around the area.
Doors open at 9 a.m. and the first session starts at 10 a.m. Tickets are limited so get them fast, order now here. You must be 12 years old or older to participate in the event. All participants 12 to 17 require an adult or guardian present during the event.
All tickets will include admission to a post-event film “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”. Miniature Figurines to “paint and take” will be available during certain sessions as well as a character creation workshop guided by experienced DMs. All passes include a set of dice and access to pre-filled character sheets.
Tickets start at $25 for a Half Day Pass, $40 for a Day Pass, and $75 for an All Access Pass. The All Access pass includes a custom-made dice set, preferred seating for the post-event movie and a complimentary snack and drink.
Tickets are also available for purchase for children ages 12-17. Half-day passes for children are $20 and full day passes are $35. Participating children must be accompanied by an adult.

Session 2: 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Session 3: 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Session 4: 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.

9:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23: Art House Presents: Film Screening “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”
Join as we cap a day full of adventure at the Goshen Theater with a showing of “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” at 10 p.m. in the Miller Auditorium.
Summary: A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.

Admission is free but a donation of $10 is encouraged. Doors open at 9:30 p.m., at which time the bar and concession stand will be open. The showing of this movie is the finale to the Goshen Art House third annual Goshen & Dragons D&D event, but is open to anyone in the community who wants to join.
1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 24: Goshen Theater Education Department and GoProv Friends Presents: Improv Introduction and Refresher
Gather as a group to explore the GoProv mantra “Improv is life and life is improv”.
Prepare to laugh like nobody’s watching. This class is ideal for the beginner looking to learn how to be silly, have fun and forget about the stresses of life.
Those with experience can join the fun as a refresher to share a new perspective on making things up.
This class is taught by GoProv’s Steve Freeto, and is slated for ages 18 years and older.

5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26: Goshen Theater’s Five Year Plan
Join in the Miller Auditorium as Goshen Theater’s leadership welcomes community stakeholders to the theater to learn about the theater’s five-year plan. Board and staff will collaborate with the planning consultants, Webb Management, to share an overview of the plan, offer opportunities for feedback, and engage in a facilitated workshop around community relationships and public programming. Come and share your thoughts about Goshen Theater’s plans and make an impact on its future programs.
This event is free and open to the public.
5-8 p.m. Friday, April 5: First Fridays: Arts Tour
Join the Goshen Theater for First Fridays: Arts Tours with amazing works by local artists. Grab a drink or snack at the concessions. Be sure to take a tour of the newly renovated theater and grab your tickets for the next event!
5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 18: Martinis and Music
Join the Goshen Theater every third Thursday for martinis and music in the lobby.
This is a free music event with drinks and snacks available for purchase. The event features music from Mitch McLane and the guest bartender is Spencer Craig on loan from the Constant Spring.
Come grab a drink after work and relax!
1 p.m. Sunday, April 21: Goshen Theater Education Department and GoProv: Improv in the Workplace
Goshen Theater Education Department and GoProv Friends are excited to bring back adult improv classes with Steve Freeto.
This session will focus on improv in the workplace. Work on your public speaking and presentation skills. How to adapt to an ever changing work environment. From Zoom to the conference room, improv can make you better at your job. This is an ideal session for those looking to polish some skills and perfect for those professionals who want some practice being in front of a crowd. No need to picture your audience naked when you have skills to make public speaking easier. Butterflies and nerves can propel your presentation.

7 p.m. Thursday, April 25: Goshen College Short Film Festival
Join Goshen College Film Students in the Miller Auditorium for their annual Short Film Festival. All films are created by Goshen College Film Students. This event is free to the public but donations are encouraged at the door. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the first film begins at 7 p.m.
7 p.m. Friday, April 26: Free Movie Night: The Color Purple
Join in the Miller Auditorium for a free movie night showing of “The Color Purple.”
Summary: An epic tale spanning forty years in the life of Celie (Whoopi Goldberg), an African-American woman living in the South who survives incredible abuse and bigotry. After Celie’s abusive father marries her off to the equally debasing “Mister” Albert Johnson (Danny Glover), things go from bad to worse, leaving Celie to find companionship anywhere she can. She perseveres, holding on to her dream of one day being reunited with her sister in Africa. Based on the novel by Alice Walker.

5-8 p.m. Friday, May 3: Maple City Orchestra
Join in the Miller Auditorium during First Fridays Downtown to hear the musical stylings of the Maple City Orchestra. Be sure to check out the artwork of Goshen High School students throughout the Lobby. Entrance is free but donations are encouraged at the door.
9 a.m. Saturday, May 4: Youth Mental Health First Aid Certification
Youth Mental Health First Aid is an early intervention public education program. This class teaches you to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in children and adolescence ages 12-18.
This Certification is provided by the Elkhart County Health Department, and through the support of NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness. The content of this workshop is very similar to an Adult Mental Health First Aid certification.
Goshen Theater Education Department invites Educators, Directors, Administrators, and Caring Citizens of all backgrounds to join in this vital training to better serve the Youth of Goshen and Elkhart County. You must be 18 years or older to register for this certification. There is a $25 registration fee and lunch will be provided to participants. Participants must be able to complete a two hour self-paced online course before the in-person training on Saturday, May 4.
There are only twenty-four spots available for this certification course. Should spots fill, a wait-list will be created on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration closes on Friday, April 12.

7 p.m. Friday, May 10: Free Movie Night: Footloose
Join us in the Miller Auditorium for a free movie night showing of “Footloose” at 7 p.m.
Summary: Moving in from Chicago, newcomer Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon) is in shock when he discovers the small Midwestern town he now calls home has made dancing and rock music illegal. As he struggles to fit in, Ren faces an uphill battle to change things. With the help of his new friend, Willard Hewitt (Christopher Penn), and defiant teen Ariel Moore (Lori Singer), he might loosen up this conservative town. But Ariel’s influential father, Reverend Shaw Moore (John Lithgow), stands in the way.

Goshen Theater Education Department and GoProv Friends are excited to bring back adult improv classes with Steve Freeto.
This session will focus on Improv Playtime for Adults. Life can be a challenge. Did you forget about the little kid you once were? Spend the day playing theatre and childhood games. Reinvigorate your life and remember how to laugh and play. Join in some clowning exercises and focus on being silly.

4 p.m. Sunday, May 19: pax duo
Join in the Miller Auditorium for the musical stylings of pax duo. Featuring local and surrounding areas’ high school musicians as the special openers.
pax duo is a percussion project based in Goshen and Madison, WI. Their repertoire moves percussion music beyond the concert hall, incorporating lighting and electronics, and blending genres like indie, hip-hop, and funk into a contemporary classical context.

6 p.m. Friday, May 31: Goshen Theater Drama Club: Spring Showcase
Join in the Miller Auditorium as the Goshen Theater’s Drama Club students showcase their hard work from the semester.
See the creative original works of the acting students, hear the vocal stylings of our musical theater students and dance the night away with our Latin dance students.
Don’t miss this one night only performance by the local youth artists.
Doors unlock at 5:15 p.m. and seating begins at 5:30 p.m.
