Two From Columbia City Arrested On Drug, Child Neglect Charges

COLUMBIA CITY — Two people from Columbia City were recently arrested on drug and child neglect charges after an officer detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from a residence.
Christina Marie Craig, 39; and Scottie Jacobs, 40, both of 205 1/2 W. Market St., Columbia City, are each charged with neglect of a dependent and maintaining a common nuisance, both level 6 felonies; possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor; possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
On March 13, a Whitley County Sheriff’s Office deputy was traveling in Columbia City when he smelled marijuana near a residence. The deputy went to the residence and spoke with Craig about the smell. Craig told the deputy she smoked marijuana.
According to court documents, there was a visible cloud of smoky haze in the residence. Jacobs and a child were present in the home at the time.
Upon searching the residence, officers found drug paraphernalia, mushroom gummies, and marijuana.
Craig and Jacobs were booked in the Whitley County Jail on March 24.
