Columbia City Woman Arrested After Allegedly Allowing Child To Steal Stanley Cup From Store
Staff Report
COLUMBIA CITY — A Columbia City woman was recently arrested after allegedly allowing a child to steal a Stanley cup from a store.
Holly Marie Timms, 46, 1350 N. SR 109, Columbia City, is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a level 6 felony; and theft, a class A misdemeanor.
On March 28, a Columbia City Police officer responded to a theft report at Ace Hardware. The store’s owner reported that Timms and a child stole a Stanley cup from the store on March 27.
According to court documents, surveillance footage showed Timms and the child walking through the store together. At one point, the child grabbed a Stanley cup and took a label off of it, disposing of the paper inside the cup and leaving the cup on a shelf. The price range for Stanley cups is $35 to $50.
As Timms and the child were leaving the store, an employee asked if the child brought the cup in with them. The child said they did and left the store with the Stanley cup.
The officer spoke with Timms on March 29 about the theft. Timms said the child had a backpack with them and believed the child grabbed the Stanley cup from their bag. She told the officer she was unaware the child did that and said she could return the cup or purchase it.
After being informed about the store’s surveillance footage, Timms said the child was trying to get a Stanley cup even after being told they couldn’t purchase it. She admitted that she should have taken the cup from the child before they left the store but didn’t know why she didn’t do so.
Timms was booked in the Whitley County Jail on March 29.
