Syracuse Public Library — SPL Celebrates National Library Week
News Release
SYRACUSE — National Library Week runs from April 3-13 and celebrates the roles libraries play in their communities, from connecting patrons with digital resources, like Hoopla or Libby, to providing access to technology, like hotspots and public computers. Libraries are so much more than books, and 2024’s theme — “Ready, Set, Library!” — encourages everyone to head to their library to uncover all their offerings.
To celebrate, Syracuse Public Library will hide special golden tickets upstairs and downstairs. Patrons who find these tickets will bring them to either the adult or children’s circulation desk for a special prize. An adult finder can pick their prize from SPL’s prize box or get a free printing card. Children can pick a book to take home and keep.
SPL will also have bookmark-making stations set up and will offer other fun activities. There has never been a better time to explore the library, attend its programs or sign up for a card.
Children’s Programming
Story time and home- school class will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 10. Preschool-aged children will continue to learn about the alphabet while listening to picture books. Meanwhile, students in grades first through third will complete a simple cardboard engineering project. Older students can join the class if they choose to.
Coffee Social
The Friends of the Syracuse Public Library will hold a coffee social from 10:30 until noon Wednesday, April 10, in the upstairs sitting area. Grab a cup to go or sit and chat with the Friends. The Friends often have fun treats available, too.
Craft And Sip Goes To The Birds
During April’s Craft and Sip, registered participants will paint Boho-style birdhouses from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, in the downstairs meeting room. The library will provide all the supplies necessary for free.
This program is limited to 12 people, so sign up using SPL’s digital calendar at tinyurl.com/SPLBohoBirdhouses.

Dungeons And Dragons
The library welcomes players aged 16-25 to its “Dungeons and Dragons” group from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, April 11, in the Rosalyn Jones Room. Each session features a self-contained story, so new players are always welcome. The library has extra dice available.
