Plymouth Man Arrested After Allegedly Stealing Firearms
Staff Report
PLYMOUTH — A Plymouth man is facing a criminal charge after allegedly stealing firearms from a residence.
Braden Daniel Masten, 20, 5350 Pine Road, Plymouth, is charged with theft of a firearm, a level 5 felony.
On Jan. 18, a Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputy received a report about firearms being stolen from a residence in Plymouth. A man said he received a call on Jan. 17 from a relative of Masten’s and was asked to check and make sure his firearms were not missing.
According to court documents, the relative said Masten had sold a gun to an individual for $100 and believed it was stolen. Upon checking his firearms, the man noticed two of his guns were missing. The individual gave the gun to Masten’s relative upon learning it was possibly stolen.
The relative gave the firearm to law enforcement, who determined it was a firearm stolen from the man’s residence. In an interview with law enforcement on Jan. 23, the individual said he purchased a rifle from Masten in June or July of 2023. He said Masten told him he received the gun from a retired officer.
During a conversation with officers on Feb. 15, Masten said he had nothing to do with the theft. He admitted to selling a firearm to the individual but said he initially bought it from somebody on social media. Officers asked Masten to obtain copies of communication between him and the individual he supposedly bought the firearm from.
As of March 2, officers did not receive proof of this communication from Masten.
Masten was booked in the Marshall County Jail on April 4, after he allegedly removed his ankle monitor and hid from law enforcement for four hours.
