Douglas R. Mayhew
Douglas R. “Doug” Mayhew, 62, of rural Palestine, passed away peacefully at his residence at 4:59 a.m. Sunday, June 2, 2024.
He was born in Rochester on April 26, 1962, to David and Dottie (Damron) Mayhew. He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1980. On July 15, 1988, he married Michelle Spears, in Warsaw, and she survives him.
Doug dedicated 43 years of his life to working as a bindery machine operator at R.R. Donnelley/LSC Communications. Beyond his professional life, he was deeply committed to serving his community. For 28 years, he volunteered with the Burket Volunteer Fire Department, and he also contributed more than 15 years of service to the Mentone 4-Way EMS. Doug had a passion for hunting, fishing and sports. He followed the Chicago Cubs and NASCAR, where he was a devoted fan of Dale Earnhardt and later Martin Truex. Additionally, Doug cherished his four-legged furry companions.
Surviving him are his wife, Michelle Mayhew, of rural Palestine; mother, Dottie Hudkins, of Warsaw; his brother, Duane and wife Sandra Mayhew, of St. Germain, Wis.; and his sister, Danita and husband Dan Spangler, of Pierceton.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, David Mayhew; and his uncle, Paul Mayhew.
The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Lewis Shepherd officiating.
The interment will take place in the Palestine Cemetery, Palestine.
Visitation hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at King Memorial Home, Mentone, with a Fireman’s Service at 7 p.m. by the Burket Fire Department.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Burket Volunteer Fire Department.
