Rep. Spartz Charged with Bringing a Firearm through Airport Security
News Release
NOBLESVILLE — Indiana Republican U.S. Rep. Victoria Spartz, 45, has been charged with bringing a firearm through Washington Dulles International Airport security, a Class 1 misdemeanor under Virginia law.
Passengers are not allowed to carry firearms through security, but TSA allows firearms that are declared, checked and packed in a hard-sided case.
Spartz’s office issued a statement that carrying the unloaded .380-caliber firearm through security was an accident.
Spartz was issued a citation and proceeded on her flight.
If convicted, the charge carries up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
