Melinda Miller
Miller, Echoes’ secretary, spoke about the events that take place every year at the Kosciusko County Fair, including tractor-churned ice cream, ‘trashcan corn on the cob,’ ham, beans, cornbread and chili as well as a corn pit, a barrel train and giant tubes for kids to play in.
As Miller discussed the events at the fair, Thames Goon walked into the gazebo and Miller called out to him. Goon shared that his father is the one who started Echoes when he worked on the fair board and suggested the idea.
“A lot of laughs. A lot of stories,” Goon said, describing what goes on at Echoes of the Past.
“Giving back to community, as well,” Miller added.
The Echoes area of the fair includes demonstrations of trades such as blacksmithing, rope-making and saw-milling. This year the tractor driving experience was canceled due to rain, but a collection of new and antique tractors are available for viewing.
Miller used to participate in 4-H and camp at the fair before becoming part of Echoes of the Past.
To become a member, Miller suggested coming down to the fair to see Jackie Clase in the yellow and white tent or visiting the website. There is a $25 yearly membership fee.
Echoes of the Past has upcoming events such as Summerfest Aug. 2-3 at 7029 S. County Farm Road, Claypool, which will feature a tractor show, live music, games and more.
Later in the year, there will be Oktoberfest and in December, they’ll host Santa Claus.
