Staff Report
WARSAW — A Winona Lake man was arrested for allegedly battering a person at a Warsaw restaurant.
Daniel Hugo Duenas-Duron, 26, 2326 E. Pierceton Road, Winona Lake, is charged with battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, intimidation, and possession of methamphetamine, all level 6 felonies; interference with the reporting of a crime and battery, both class A misdemeanors; criminal mischief and possession of marijuana, both class B misdemeanors; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
On June 13, Warsaw Police officers responded to a report of a battery in progress at American Table Restaurant. Upon arrival, officers saw a man with visible redness and swelling to the left side of his face. There was also a second man at the scene who had a small cut on the left side of his nose.
Officers spoke with the second man, who said he was sitting in a booth when he heard the restaurant’s manager say someone pulled into the parking lot in an aggressive manner. According to court documents, the individual who entered the parking lot in an aggressive manner was later identified as Duenas-Duron.
Duenas-Duron entered the restaurant, walked toward a man, and began hitting him. The second man said he was injured when he tried to pull Duenas-Duron away from the man. Duenas-Duron chased the two men into the kitchen and, at one point, ripped a phone from a wall before leaving the restaurant. The restaurant’s manager was on the phone with 911 when Duenas-Duron ripped the phone from the wall. Duenas-Duron also threatened to kill one of the men several times during the altercation.
Officers spoke with the man Duenas-Duron initially battered. The man said he did not know Duenas-Duron, who he said hit him repeatedly and threatened to kill him several times.
Restaurant employees said the damage Duenas-Duron caused to the restaurant’s phones, intercom and credit card machine was around $500 to $600 in value.
Officers located Duenas-Duron and searched his vehicle. During the search, officers found meth, a small amount of marijuana, and a THC vape cartridge. Duenas-Duron admitted to possessing THC and committing battery at American Table.
At the time of this incident, Duenas-Duron was on probation for aggravated battery and reckless homicide. He was projected to be released from probation in February 2026.
Duenas-Duron has a pretrial conference at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, in Kosciusko Superior Court Two.
