Kewanna Woman Arrested After Leaving Baby In Car
Staff Report
ROCHESTER — A Kewanna woman was arrested for neglect after she left a baby in a vehicle for almost an hour.
Chloe Renee Burns, 20, 202 S. Logan St., Kewanna, is charged with neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony.
On July 12, a Rochester Police officer responded to the Family and Social Services building regarding a baby being left in a vehicle for 45 minutes. An FSS employee said Burns arrived for an appointment and abruptly left about 40 minutes later.
According to court documents, Burns said she left a baby in a vehicle. The employee said the baby was lethargic upon being brought into the FSS building. Medical personnel told the officer they were surprised the child was okay considering the circumstances.
Burns said the baby was sleeping and quiet while she was going to the appointment. She told the officer she “spaced” about the baby being in the vehicle.
Weather conditions at the time were sunny and hot, with temperatures in the lower 80s. The baby was taken to a local hospital and given fluids.
Burns was booked in the Fulton County Jail on July 12.
