WARSAW — Alyssa Schmucker has filed a declaration of candidacy for the position of Kosciusko County Auditor.
Schmucker has worked in the county auditor’s office for the last eight years as a financial secretary. She also worked for an EMS for about 30 years.
Schmucker’s prior experience includes working in the Tippecanoe Township Assessor’s Office and serving as the Tippecanoe Township Trustee. She’s been a North Webster resident her whole life and is a member of the North Webster Lady Lions and North Webster American Legion Post 253 Ladies Auxiliary.
“I talked to several people (in the auditor’s office) about going for the job and decided it was something I should do,” said Schmucker.
If appointed, Schmucker said she is looking forward to continuing the same processes the auditor’s office currently does.
Rhonda Helser, the county’s current auditor, submitted her resignation on July 22. The resignation is effective Aug. 31.
A caucus to fill the vacancy will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, in the Old Courtroom at the Kosciusko County Courthouse in Warsaw. Eligible members of the caucus, by statutory definition, are the Republican Precinct committee members who have served continuously from 30 days before the commencement of the caucus.
The Kosciusko County Auditor will be elected by secret ballot of the majority of the voting caucus members to fill the office vacancy.
Declarations of candidacy are available at the office of the Kosciusko County Clerk, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw. These declarations must be filed with Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee Chairman Mike Ragan no later than 72 hours before the commencement of the caucus. Ragan can be contacted at (574) 265-1430.
