Milford Public Library — Another Successful Summer Reading Program Completed
News Release
MILFORD — The Grand Finale Pizza Party and Foamzilla was held Wednesday, July 17, at the Milford Public Library. They had 71 children, 16 teens and 30 adults enjoy a slice or two in celebration of another successful Summer Reading Program.
The Knights of Columbus also provided snow cones, a perfect addition on a warm day. After a delicious lunch, Foamzilla entertained the crowd by playing music and spraying foam all over. Everyone had a great time.
The Summer Reading Program concluded on July 20 with participants turning in many hours of summer reading time. They had 148 children participate and 48 teens. Total hours read was 3,444.
Library staff thanks the following individuals, businesses and organizations for supporting the MPL Summer Reading Program: Milford Kiwanis, Neighborhood Fresh, Culver’s, The Bowling Alley, Subway, Bobi’s Shear Success, Harvest Coffee and Market, Pizza Hut, Friends of the Milford Public Library, China Seas, Ruch Service, Brunjes LLC, TLC Services, Royal Maintenance Company, CTB Inc., Land O’Lakes (Purina), Columbian Reading Circle, Lakeland Eagles Auxiliary No. 3760, Lakeland Animal Clinic, Dr. Richard Brungardt, Women of Today, Knights of Columbus, Maple Leaf Farms Inc., Phend and Brown, Lake City Bank, Milford’s Lions Club and Syracuse Wawasee Rotary Club.
Without their generous donations, they would not be able to attract large numbers of children and teens to participate in reading all summer and maintaining or even improving their reading skills before school begins in the fall. They have lots of fun planning programs they think families will enjoy and already are looking forward to next summer.
Last Story Time
The last family story time of the summer was on Friday, July 19. The guest storyteller was Felicia Mottern. She read “The Bear’s Sea Escape” by Benjamin Chaud. The children participated in the telling of the story by acting out different sounds and actions when prompted by the storyteller. The craft was making monoculars and using them to find Little Bear in the pages of the book.
