Crash causes extensive damage to boardwalk
News Release
SYRACUSE — A section of boardwalk on the Syracuse-Wawasee Trails was destroyed following an accident late Saturday, July 27.
The crash occurred on North Eastshore Drive, at East Pickwick Drive. Authorities were called at 11:37 p.m.
The driver, Trevor A. Moseman, 33, North Kings Drive, Syracuse, was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was held on $700 cash bond.
Moseman told police he had left his residence and started driving his 2015 Ford Mustang east on East Pickwick Drive and started traveling northeast onto North Eastshore Drive. A deer was in the roadway causing Moseman to slow down and move out of the way to avoid hitting the deer.
He stated he accelerated too fast after that and lost control, driving his car into the boardwalk on the west side of the roadway.
Moseman sustained a laceration to his forehead and was treated and released at the scene.
The Mustang suffered heavy front end damage and damage to both the driver and passenger side of the vehicle.
Damage has been estimated up to $50,000.
“We are working closely with the county police department to gather information in order to clear out the dangerous debris and begin reconstruction of the boardwalk. We need a full picture of the incident,” said Executive Director Amanda Plank.
“In the meantime, please take caution while using the other sections along this particular trailway. We’re incredibly saddened that one of our most beloved trailways has been damaged so severely.”
