SYRACUSE — An alarm due to low waterfall pressure sent Turkey Creek Fire Territory to Polywood’s plant, located at 1009 W. Polywood Way on Saturday, July 27.
The alarm was activated at approximately 12:15 p.m. after the sprinkler system engaged due to a fire in the plant.
When firefighters arrived smoke was coming from the building. The fire was under control within an hour of the initial call.
Mickey Scott, fire chief, reported the fire was caused by maintenance work on one of the machines. He stated the building contained raw plastic material and plastic on a conveyor belt caught fire.
“The sprinkler system did its job,” stated Scott. The system was installed two years ago and activated at the appropriate time.
No one was hurt and damage has been estimated up to $1,000.
Full assists were requested from Benton and Milford fire departments and Tippecanoe Fire Territory. Plain and Sparta township fire departments were placed on standby.
