Warsaw Man Arrested On Several Domestic Battery Charges
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested for allegedly battering a woman he previously harmed in 2021.
Jorge Luis Perez Jr., 34, 322 N. Cook St., Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor; domestic battery with a child under 16 years of age present, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery with a prior conviction – same victim, a level 5 felony.
On July 28, Warsaw Police officers responded to a report of a fight. Perez said he had an argument with a woman and decided to leave.
According to court documents, Perez said he grabbed a suitcase and tried to enter a bedroom when the woman locked the bedroom’s door. After unlocking the door with a butter knife, Perez began packing clothes and said the woman attempted to pull the suitcase away. He said four children at the home were in their rooms at the time of the incident.
The woman said she shut a bedroom door after Perez was continuing to argue with her. When Perez entered the room holding a butter knife, she called 911. During the incident, Perez picked up a duffle bag and hit the left side of the woman’s face with the bag. One of the children stepped between the woman and Perez, pushing Perez away from the woman.
The child said they saw Perez hit the woman with the duffle bag and pushed Perez away.
Perez was previously convicted of domestic battery in Marshall County in June 2021. The victim in that case is the woman involved in the July incident.
Perez was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on July 28. He has an initial hearing at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, in Kosciusko Superior Court Two.
