WARSAW — A Warsaw man will serve a four-year sentence locally for possessing drugs and stealing items from a store in North Webster.
Jason Lee Busz, 43, 2605 E. Center St., Warsaw, was charged with possession of methamphetamine with enhancing circumstances, a level 5 felony; and theft with a prior conviction, a level 6 felony. Two additional criminal charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Busz was sentenced in Kosciusko Circuit Court on Monday, Aug. 19.
For meth possession, Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed sentenced Busz to four years in the Kosciusko County Jail, with the first two years executed and the last two years suspended on probation. Busz also received a one-year KCJ sentence for theft, which will be served at the same time as the meth possession charge.
Reed showed no objection to Busz serving the executed portion of his sentence through the Kosciusko County Work Release program. Busz has been approved for work release.
The sentence in this case will be served back-to-back to a theft case Busz was previously sentenced for.
In total, Busz received a four-year KCJ sentence, with two years executed and two years suspended on probation.
On Feb. 2, North Webster and Warsaw Police officers responded to a welfare check on a man, later identified as Busz, in North Webster. A store owner said Busz stole items from their store.
According to court documents, the owner received a shirt and necklace that Busz attempted to conceal on his person. Upon searching Busz’s vehicle, officers found a glass pipe with meth residue.
Busz has prior convictions for dealing meth and theft in Kosciusko County.
