Syracuse Public Library — Children Get Creative During ‘Crafternoon’
News Release
SYRACUSE — Syracuse Public Library welcomes children to its new “Crafternoon” program. This program will meet at 4 p.m. every Tuesday in September, starting Sept. 3. Each week will feature a new project, with the first being a school bus picture frame for back-to-school photos. Children will use wooden sticks to create it.
A full list of planned projects for September is available at syracuse.lib.in.us/children.html.
Labor Day Closing
Syracuse Public Library will close on Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day. While the library is closed, patrons can use SPL’s digital resources. The Libby and Hoopla apps provide access to hundreds of digital materials from TV shows to magazines to e-books and audiobooks.
‘Heroes And Villains’ Escape Room
Fan-favorite heroes and villains — from literature and pop culture — will make appearances in SPL’s new September escape room. Participants must solve various puzzles to escape the “Heroes and Villains” escape room within an hour.
Sign up for specific time slots using the library’s digital calendar, located at tinyurl.com/SPLOnlineCalendar. Interested parties can also email Hanna Kunkel at [email protected] to set up an alternative time to complete the escape room if existing time slots don’t work.
Sign Up For Art Club
Children’s services librarian, Megan Daumen, is launching a new Art Club session. This one will use paper mache to create masks in time for Halloween. The group will meet from 4-5 p.m. each Monday, starting Sept. 16, in the downstairs meeting room. Sign up for this program in the children’s department or email Daumen at [email protected]. Space is limited to 15 children.
Story Time And Home School Class
Story time meets at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, in the children’s department. There will be new stories to enjoy while preschoolers learn more about the alphabet and pick up some Spanish and American Sign Language. There will also be a craft related to this week’s letter, “D.”
SPL’s home school class also meets at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, in the downstairs meeting room. Children in first through third grade will dive into the world of music and learn about reading music and different instruments. This class will be more advanced, so older students are welcome to join. Parents are also encouraged to help.
Friends Of The Library Meeting
The Friends of the Syracuse Public Library will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, in the downstairs meeting room. Those interested in learning more about the Friends and their mission to support the Syracuse Public Library are welcome to attend. Since this meeting occurs before the library opens, knock on the southernmost North Harrison Street door to enter; there will be a sign on the door.
Game On At The Library
Young adult video gaming meets from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, in the Rosalyn Jones Room. Teens will play video games on the library’s Nintendo Switch, while enjoying provided snacks.
Home School Curriculum Petting Zoo
Home-schooling parents are invited to bring their curriculums to the Syracuse Public Library at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, for the home school curriculum petting zoo in the downstairs meeting room. The petting zoo will enable parents to explore different home school curriculums and discover ones that will work best for their children. Like with all SPL programs, a library card is not required to attend this program.
