WARSAW — Warsaw Community Schools’ Superintendent Dr. David Hoffert was chosen by Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents members as the 2025 Superintendent of the Year for District II.

District winners are selected by fellow area superintendents based on their qualifications, accomplishments, and impact on their school community.

Hoffert, a lifelong resident of Warsaw, has served as WCS’s superintendent since 2014, profoundly impacting the district’s growth and success. Under his leadership, WCS has become a beacon of academic excellence and innovation, serving nearly 6,700 students across eight elementary schools, two middle schools, Warsaw Community High School, the Warsaw Area Career Center, and the Gateway Alternative Center.

The district spans a 20×30 mile rural and suburban geography area, encompassing Allen, DeKalb, Elkhart, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, St. Joseph, Steuben, and Whitley Counties.

Hoffert’s educational journey includes a PhD and an EdS from Indiana State University and additional degrees from Indiana Wesleyan University, Olivet Nazarene University, and Anderson University. His extensive experience in educational leadership includes roles as assistant superintendent, principal, social studies teacher, and adjunct professor, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his current position.

“Dr. Hoffert’s leadership has been instrumental in transforming Warsaw Community Schools into a model district, known for its commitment to student achievement and community engagement,” said the chairperson of IAPSS District II. “His dedication to fostering a culture of excellence, even in the face of challenges, is commendable. Dr. Hoffert is a shining example of what it means to be a superintendent in today’s educational landscape.”

During his tenure, Hoffert has led the district through numerous initiatives, including securing a successful public referendum that reversed initial public disapproval to approval through tireless community engagement. He has overseen the district’s transition to a more financially sustainable model, ensuring the upkeep of district facilities and the stability of the school tax rate.

Additionally, Hoffert has been pivotal in establishing WCS as a leader in STEM education, Dual Language Immersion, and leadership certification, all while maintaining a 96 percent graduation rate. Hoffert greatly values collaborative teamwork on behalf of students with his school board, administrators, teachers, staff, parents and the greater community.

Hoffert’s contributions extend beyond the confines of his district. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including IAPSS and the American Association of School Administrators. His work has also earned him recognition on the OrthoWorx Board of Directors, Kosciusko Health Board of Directors, and Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, among others.

Hoffert is one of eight superintendents being considered for selection to be the 2025 Indiana State Superintendent of the Year, which will be announced later this month.
