Toddler dies in ‘fork truck’ accident

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — Kosciusko County Officials are currently investigating an accident involving a “fork truck” and a 1-year-old toddler that occurred at 12734 N. 1025W, Nappanee. This accident took place in the northwest section of Kosciusko County in Scott Township.
At 1:09 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies and emergency personnel responded to an accident involving a fork truck and a 1-year-old toddler. Preliminary investigation determined the fork truck driver was unaware the toddler was behind the machine while the machine was in motion. While in reverse, the machine struck and backed over toddler.
Emergency personnel arrived on scene and began preforming life saving measures on the toddler. After several minutes of treating the toddler, Kosciusko County Coroner, Tyler Huffer, pronounced the toddler deceased from injuries sustained in the accident.
The operator of the fork truck was Kevin Borkholder, 34, Nappanee, The name of the toddler will not be released at this time.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Nappanee Fire Department, Nappanee EMS, Milford Police Department, Department of Child Services, and the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.
The accident remains under investigation by the KCSO Detective Division.
