Michael E. Bickel
Michael E. Bickel, 80, passed away surrounded by his family Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024.
He was born July 3, 1944, in Evansville, to Robert E. and Barbara Jean (Morgan) Bickel. On July 6, 1989, he married Tammy Bowling, in Goshen.
She survives along with a son, Joshua (Annie) Bickel, New Paris; daughter, Kristine Nowatzke, St. Louis, Mo.; son-in-law, William Nowatzke, San Fransisco; four grandchildren, Maleah Bickel, William Kraig Nowatzke, Adam Michael Earl Nowatzke and Kati Ann Riebold; three great-grandchildren, Elliott, William Jaxon and Peyton Ann; a sister, Nancy (Roger) Conant, Deland, Fla.; and his sidekick, Peanut.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Snider.
Mr. Bickel was a longtime Goshen city police officer, retiring as commander in 1995 after 28 years of service. He worked as a patrol and K-9 officer and as a detective and also did composite drawings when needed. He was a member of the American Legion, Eagles and FOP, where he served as a former president.
Michael enjoyed boating and fishing, and was a skilled woodworker, a skill he learned from his grandfather.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where a 1:30 p.m. funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, Sept. 10. The Rev. Tim Yoder will officiate.
Burial will follow at New Paris Cemetery, New Paris.
