MENTONE — A dragon, Snoopy and more came to Mentone on Saturday, Sept. 7.
People drew those and more on downtown sidewalks as part of the Mentone Chamber of Commerce’s sixth annual Chalk the Walk.
Former Mentone resident Jordan Lane has done the event every year with her family. On Saturday, she sketched the “Peanuts” character Snoopy on his doghouse in front of Mentone Town Hall, having drawn him in a previous year.
“We love our tradition,” she said of why she and her family kept coming back for the event.
In front of Pete and Freddy’s Pages Aplenty bookstore, Mentone resident Jackie A. drew a book dragon. She’s been at almost every Chalk the Walk.
“I like to support the local businesses,” she said of why she continues to come out for the event.
Sisters Dahlia Rock-Brauer and Lily Brauer joined their grandmother Lee Ann Rock and friend Jacelin Jones in front of Mentone United Methodist Church. The girls drew a rainbow and more.
“It’s just really fun,” said Jones of getting to draw.
“It’s really fun to get to play with chalk once a year,” said Rock-Brauer.
Mentone Chamber of Commerce President Rita Price Simpson noted Chamber Vice President Tim Croy came up with Chalk the Walk.
“Having him come on (the chamber) was really a great thing,” said Price Simpson of Croy and the ideas he’s brought.
She noted people have driven over from Rochester before for the event.
“Everybody really enjoys it, and it’s kind of amazing how creative they are,” said Price Simpson.
“We love to do it,” said Croy. “It’s just a time for people to come out and have fun and enjoy the day.”
