Silver Lake Town Council Approves Architectural Bid For New Community Center

SILVER LAKE — The Silver Lake Town Council voted to approve an architectural proposal for the new community center during a meeting Wednesday, Sept. 11.
Jim Hoch with Hoch Associates was present at the meeting and stated that his firm would oversee the project from start to finish. In addition to designing the community center, they will serve as the middleman and advocate for the council, handle contractor bidding, and act as the single point of contact.
The council also discussed soil testing for the community center land to check for contamination and groundwater. They approved a bid of $3,300 from GME, the only company to submit a bid.
In other business, the council approved a $7,440 bid from Nivek Earthworks for the demolition of 1008 Roosevelt St., known as “the treehouse.”
Council heard from Randy Hartman regarding the “Trunk or Treat” proposal. The council agreed to distribute fliers. Hartman asked if the town marshal can look into closing Sycamore Street to create a safe trick-or-treating area for kids.
The council also:
- Discussed the upcoming requirement for meetings to be live streamed and began preliminary research into necessary equipment and platforms.
- Approved the purchase of a new phone system for the fire department.
- Heard from the fire department that the EMS garage door opener was replaced.
- Heard a reminder that fire hydrants will be flushed during the week of Sept. 23.
- Approved sidewalk repairs following a report from the street department.
- Heard a citizen comment that the landlords had not completed promised work at 310 N. High St. Council scheduled a show cause hearing for landlords Keith and Janet Harris next month for failing to meet the requirements of a prior approval.
The next meeting will start with a budget hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Silver Lake Town Hall, with the regular meeting to follow directly after.
