Morton Receives Five-Year Prison Sentence For Drug Possession

WARSAW — A Leesburg man will serve five years in prison after officers found over 10 grams of meth in his vehicle.
Kerry Lee Morton, 55, 5099 E. Armstrong Road, Leesburg, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 3 felony; and resisting law enforcement, a level 6 felony. Two additional criminal charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Morton was sentenced in Kosciusko Circuit Court on Monday, Sept. 16.
For meth possession, Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed sentenced Morton to seven years in the Indiana Department of Correction. Morton also received a one-year DOC sentence for resisting law enforcement. Both sentences will be served at the same time.
The last two years of Morton’s sentence were suspended on formal probation. Morton has 144 days of jail time credit, plus good time credit as calculated.
In total, Morton received a seven-year prison sentence, with five years executed and two years suspended on probation.
On March 2, 2023, an Indiana State Police trooper was in the area of North Webster when he saw a vehicle with an expired registration plate. The trooper attempted to pull the vehicle over and its driver, later identified as Morton, fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended.
In Morton’s vehicle, officers found 13.7 grams of meth. He was previously convicted of conspiracy to deal cocaine in Kosciusko County in 1996.
