Staff Report
GOSHEN — More information has been released on a Goshen teenager who allegedly made threats toward Goshen High School.
Andre B. Smith, 18, 149 Winchester Trail, Goshen, is charged with two counts of intimidation, both level 6 felonies.
Shortly after midnight Sept. 18, the Goshen Police Department responded to a report about threats against Goshen Community Schools. Officers received information about a threat from an anonymous Facebook profile.
According to court documents, the profile made a post stating “Goshen High School students be ready,” followed by three gun emojis and three devil face emojis. The account also posted a comment stating “My friend will take care of GPD also be ready boys in blue.”
Due to the threat, on Sept. 18, only 21% of Goshen High School students attended school that day.
Law enforcement obtained a search warrant for the Facebook account and were able to identify Smith as the individual using the account.
In an interview with police, Smith said he made the Facebook account and posted comments to scare others before eventually deleting the account. He admitted to struggling with mental illness and depression, saying he wanted to scare people that were mean to others.
Smith has an initial hearing at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, in Elkhart Circuit Court.
