WARSAW — This fall, Warsaw Community Public Library is thrilled to announce that “Fun with Theatre for Senior Adults,” a creative program designed for adults ages 65 and older, will be offered thanks to a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission.
In a press release this summer, the Indiana Arts Commission announced that “36 libraries have received training and grant funding through Lifelong Arts Indiana, a program that promotes arts and creativity services for adults ages 65 and older. Each library will receive up to $5,000 to host programming for older adults, supported by the Indiana Arts Commission in partnership with the Family and Social Services Administration. Participating libraries were identified through a partnership with the Indiana State Library and were offered an opportunity to attend a training on creative aging best practices and apply for an early action grant to deploy their learnings in their own communities.”
This grant enables Warsaw Community Public Library to bring high-quality arts programming to the community, fostering creativity and connection among participants.
The six-day “Fun with Theatre for Senior Adults” workshop will be led by Kira Lace Hawkins, an equity artist and director of Education and Community Engagement at The Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts. This program is designed to introduce participants to the basics of theater arts. It will include guided improvisation, vocal and physical warm-ups, group singing, theater games and storytelling through movement. Over the course of two weeks, participants will meet from 1-2:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting Monday, Sept. 30. At the end of the program, they will have the opportunity to share what they’ve learned in a public showcase. All sessions will take place at Warsaw Community Public Library, and while registration is required, the program is free of charge.
Fun with Theatre is about more than just acting — it’s about trying something new, tapping into your creative side and maybe stepping out of your comfort zone. No prior experience is needed, only a willingness to embrace fun and creativity. Whether you’ve always wanted to be on stage or are simply curious, Kira’s expertise and creative approach ensure that everyone will feel welcome.
So why not take the leap? Explore your creativity, meet new people, learn from a professional artist and have fun in the process. We look forward to having you join us.
