Big Brothers Big Sisters hosts luncheon for School Buddy and Real Men Read Volunteers
News Release
FORT WAYNE — Big Brothers Big Sisters will honor its School Buddy and Real Men Read volunteers with a special luncheon at noon Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the Clyde Theater, 1808 Bluffton Road, Fort Wayne. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.
During the lunch, a program will be put on to celebrate the impact of the School Buddies and Real Men Readers, including the programs’ highlights and new opportunities to support the mission. Speakers include Chief Operating Officer Brittney Collins and Fort Wayne Metals Senior Operations Manager Chase Lockwood. The luncheon serves as a thank you to the site-based volunteers who have helped support Big Brothers Big Sisters within schools.
The School Buddies program pairs an adult volunteer (“Big”) with a child (“Little”) to form a one-on-one mentorship within the school setting. The “Big” visits the child once a week at their school during the child’s lunch period, and together they eat, do activities, and form a mentorship.
Real Men Readers visit second and third grade classrooms five times during the school term to read to the class. These male role models promote literacy and learning in youth.
For volunteers interested in attending the lunch, RSVP to Randi Bebout at (260) 203-3332 or text RSVPME to 72678.
