WARSAW — Construction work should be starting soon on a power line lowering project at the Warsaw Municipal Airport.

At its meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 8, the Warsaw Board of Aviation Commissioners heard an update on that and other projects from CHA Consulting Inc. Deputy Project Manager Robert LaFayette.

CHA Consulting handles engineering for the airport.

LaFayette noted work was delayed somewhat due to the Indiana bat nesting season, which ended Oct. 1.

“The first line outage is scheduled for Oct. 28, so there will be a work start on the foundations of the tower,” he said. “The second line outage is scheduled for the second and third weeks of December, and that is when the new towers and power lines will be going up.”

“We’re still on track for construction completion the end of the year, and then there will be some testing and things after December just to make sure everything’s well and good, and then the original line will be coming down,” said LaFayette.

In other business, the board:

• Heard from Warsaw Municipal Airport Manager Nick King that he purchased a new storage shed for the airport for $1,995 as the previous shed was destroyed in the microburst which occurred last month.
• Heard from King that Warsaw is partnering with Kosciusko County, which has helped with grant funding for projects. King noted the partnership has helped “free up some other money” for projects, like paying for design work for pavement repairs on the airport’s east-west runway.
