Warsaw-based disaster relief ministry provides hurricane aid
News Release
WARSAW — A Warsaw-based disaster relief ministry delivered 60 pallets to Hurricane Helene survivors full of diapers, food, wet wipes, generators, chain saws, cleaning supplies and livestock and pet feed.
“This community’s light definitely shines in the darkness,” said WCN Office Manager Sandy Hatcher. “Hurricane Helene ravaged five states. Towns were washed away, families lost so much. Some lost their lives, some their pets, homes, material possessions. And then Hurricane Milton hit. It was very dark time in hundreds of thousands of people’s lives.”
World Compassion Network wanted to rally the community to fill its box truck that takes 12 pallets. Dan Metzger from Metzger Trucking heard about WCN’s plan and offered a semitractor and a driver to take additional supplies.
Hatcher said she was nervous about being able to get enough supplies to fill the space. However, one week later, the community and surrounding communities filled two semitractors. Sixty pallets went to North Carolina.
Volunteers from Kosciusko JCAP, Beaman Home, Fellowship Missions, Whitko Sunshine Society, and many more individuals and families volunteered to pack supplies and load the trucks. Area organizations joined the effort, including Metzger Trucking, G & G Hauling, Lewis Salvage, Warsaw Community Church and Warsaw Chemical. Many area churches sent out information to their congregations.
WCN Disaster Relief Coordinator, Tyler Snow, is headed to Ocala Florida to link up with Compassionate Alliance, one of WCN’s ministry partners. They are going to be running air ops, trying to get helicopters and planes into hard-to-reach areas to drop off supplies.
“It really was a community coming together to help others suffering,” wrote Hatcher in an email. “It left me in tears.”
