Wickens Files Candidacy For Winona Lake Town Council

WINONA LAKE — Scott Wickens filed for candidacy for the Winona Lake Town Council on Monday, Oct. 14.
The council has a vacancy after Rick Swaim submitted a letter of resignation on Tuesday, Oct. 1, effective immediately.
Scott Wickens has been a resident of the Warsaw-Winona Lake area all of his life. He attended Warsaw Community High School, worked in the county and raised his family here with his wife of 32 years. He says he really enjoys everything Winona Lake has to offer and wants to help it continue to grow.
“I’m just a concerned citizen with a servant’s heart,” said Wickens. “I’m want to step in, start learning and see how I can help the town. I haven’t been involved with local politics before. But I think it’s important for a small town to be responsible to its residents, be fiscally responsible especially, and be transparent. That’s what I can bring to the team.”
Wickens says he’s served on numerous organizations and has served as leadership on multiple. He and is wife are currently area reps for the Indiana Christian Motorcyclists Association.
A GOP caucus will convene at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, to fill that vacancy at the Winona Lake Town Hall Chambers, 1310 Park Ave.
Eligible candidates will be allowed a maximum of three minutes to address the voting caucus. The members of the Winona Lake Caucus are Wayne 1, Travis Trump; Wayne 2, Kathleen Keirn; Wayne 3, Bruce Shaffner; Wayne 4, Lisa Sands; and Wayne 10, Joe Hawn.
The deadline to file is Friday, Oct. 18, by 6 p.m. Declarations of candidacy are available at the office of Kosciusko County Clerk of the Circuit Court, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw, and must be notarized and filed with Kosciusko County Republican Party Chair Mike Ragan no later than 72 hours prior to the appointment.
