MILFORD — Motorists may have noticed road construction on Milford-Syracuse Road, officially known as CR 1300 North, this week. No, it is not another overpass. Crews will be paving a five-mile section of the road between the new overpass in Milford and Kern Road, Syracuse. The preliminary work started today, Wednesday, Oct. 16.
CR 1300N is one of three county roads near Milford that are being paved with The American Rescue Plan Act funds.
Steve Moriarty, Kosciusko County Highway Department Superintendent, said the work is being done to make road improvements from the new overpass in Milford to Syracuse’s Kern Road more “travel friendly.”
“We just wanted to connect the dots between Milford and Syracuse,” he said. “We wanted to make it wide enough and nice for the traveling public.”
He said the main reason for paving CR 1300N from the west to the east and vice versa, is safety.
“We wanted to improve the safety of the road,” Moriarity said.
Two other country roads near Milford getting paved, are CR 175 East down to CR 1150N, which is two miles, and CR 100 East down to CR 1250N to CR 100 East to the Milford town limits, which is about one mile.
Moriarity said the cost of the paving project is $1,318,940.50 for all three county roads. The county received AARPA funds at a recent Kosciusko County commissioners meeting. Phend & Brown of Milford was awarded the project based on its lowest bid.
He said the work is expected to take two weeks. Expect traffic delays, as the roads will be down to one lane in some areas.
