Milford Public Library — October Is ‘Socktober’
News Release
MILFORD — The Milford Public Library is having another “Socktober” during the month of October. Bring new pairs of socks, any size, for babies, children, men and women, to the library and they will collect your donations all month. At the end of October, your donations will be divided between the Milford School, Milford Food Pantry and Milford Food Bank. Socks are the least donated item to shelters. So far, they have collected 51 pairs of socks. Bring your donation in today. Let’s keep everyone’s tootsies nice and warm this winter.
New Employees
Lisa Goon and Mackenzie Winland have been hired as part-time library clerks. Goon will be working in the children’s department on Thursdays and Fridays. Winland will work in both the children’s and adult departments.
Winland graduated from Columbia City High School. She enjoys reading adult fiction, woodworking and interior design. She is studying to become a social worker. Goon has been a Leesburg resident for 43 years. She has two grown children, loves dogs and enjoys working with children. Next time you visit the library, be sure to say hello and welcome the new staff members.
LEGO Challenge
October’s LEGO Challenge is to build an owl. Children ages 3-15 are invited to participate in the monthly LEGO challenge. If you make an owl, submit a photo to [email protected] by 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25. The library will announce the winner on Nov. 1. Winners get a new LEGO kit.
Candy Bar Donations Needed
The library plans to have a week-long Halloween activity Oct. 28-Nov. 1. They would like to give the children a full-size candy bar for completing the activity. They will need a lot of candy bars. Anyone 17 and under can participate in the Halloween activity. Bring your donation to the adult circulation desk before Oct. 28.
Ghosts Scavenger Hunt
This year the library is celebrating Halloween from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1. You can do the scavenger hunt anytime when they are open that week. There are 13 ghosts hiding throughout the library, looking for books to read. Pick up your scavenger hunt sheet at the adult circulation desk and find six of the 13 ghosts, then head down to the children’s department to find more ghosts. When you have found all 13 ghosts, turn your scavenger hunt sheet in at the children’s circulation desk and collect a full-size candy bar as your prize. Anyone preschool through age 17 may participate; one candy bar per participant.
