Staff Report
WARSAW — Two people from Elkhart were arrested for allegedly stealing items from the Warsaw Walmart.
Nicholas Talbot Gene Myers, 28, 1810 Visscher Drive Apartment 6, Elkhart, is charged with theft, a class A misdemeanor; and theft with a prior conviction, a level 6 felony.
Serena Ann Marie Hernandez, 22, 1810 Visscher Drive Apartment 6, Elkhart, is charged with theft, a class A misdemeanor.
On Sept. 2, an asset protection employee at the Warsaw Walmart noticed two people scanning their items very rapidly. The people were later identified as Myers and Hernandez.
According to court documents, Hernandez failed to scan a package of shampoo bottles and placed them into a shopping bag. When the employee paused the transaction, Hernandez removed the bottles from the bag and attempted to scan them.
Upon further reviewing security footage, the employee discovered Hernandez and Myers had failed to scan several more items before being noticed. Hernandez swiped items across the register, choosing to skip-scan certain items, while Myers retrieved the items and bagged them.
Hernandez and Myers were stopped prior to leaving the store. They stole a total of $29.39 in merchandise from Walmart.
Myers was previously convicted of theft in Elkhart County in October 2015.
Myers and Hernandez have both already been arrested and released on bond.
