Fort Wayne Trails Celebrates Groundbreaking Of Covington Road Trail Hub
News Release
FORT WAYNE — Fort Wayne Trails Inc. will be holding a groundbreaking to celebrate the Venderly-Stephens Trail Hub, which finds its home on the soon to be completed Covington Road Trail corridor, starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22. This future Trail Hub not only provides trail users with a communal location to gather or rest, but also features a monument with permanent recognition for the donors in our community that support the continued development of projects such as the Covington Road Trail.
This newest section of trail built by City of Fort Wayne Public Works measures .9 miles in length and closes a gap between existing trail ending at Hadley Road to Times Corner at Getz Road.
Thanks to the support of FWT donors, Fort Wayne Trails has provided $243,000 to the Covington Road Trail project. Trail Hubs are owned and maintained by Fort Wayne Trails and this is one of three Trail Hub projects that are currently in the works. The Venderly-Stephens Trail Hub is located at the future site of a trail user parking lot, 7014 Covington Road, that will serve the southwest area trails being developed by the City of Fort Wayne Public Works.
The groundbreaking will be taking place at 7014 Covington Road, Fort Wayne with the ceremony starting at 5:30. Anyone who is interested in learning more about Trail Hubs is invited to attend and can click here to learn how to donate.
“Trail Hubs are just one more way that we can develop the public-private partnership our trail system has benefited from for decades. It allows people to memorialize their gift to the community in a permanent and legacy type of way and helps build our trail system faster with private donor support,” Kent Castleman, Fort Wayne Trails executive director.
Created in January 2011, Fort Wayne Trails, Inc. is a partner and advocate in the development of a connected multipurpose trail system in Allen County, Indiana. There are currently over 142 miles of trails in the community.
