James A. Boggs
James A. “Jim” Boggs, 78, went to be with the Lord in his own ornery way on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024. He was living with his daughter in Leesburg.
A lifelong Warsaw resident, Jim was born on Feb. 17, 1946, to Fred and Doris (Zimmer) Boggs. He graduated from Warsaw Community High School with the class of 1964.
Raised with a strong work ethic, Jim worked with his father to develop the land in the Boggs Industrial Park on the west side of Warsaw. He set out to become a heavy equipment operator for Smith Excavating and Lewis Salvage in Warsaw. He instilled in his children and grandchildren this same work ethic.
Aside from his business, Jim was a jack-of-all trades and knew a little about almost everything. He was very social in the community and you never knew where you would run into him for a quick chat. Jim was a penny-pincher, grouchy and teasingly cheerful, and his family would joke about it a lot. He insisted his grandchildren lovingly call him “Grandpa Grouch Ass.”
Jim loved racing, watching NASCAR, the Sprint Car Series and went to the Daytona 500 all the time. He was in the Warsaw Speedway Hall of Fame for sprint car racing and helped out at the Plymouth Motor Speedway. He could be found relaxing and watching “Gunsmoke” and other old westerns.
He is dearly missed by his son, Scott Boggs, his wife Shelley, and their children, Chris, Ashley and Nick, and his daughter, Tracey Wilson, her husband Michael, and their children, Robbie, Gage and Peyton; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Judy Spiegel; and nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Doris Boggs; niece, Cheryl Boggs; and nephew, Butch Boggs.
