3 Departments respond to house fire
News Release
MENTONE — Burket Fire Department was called to a possible attic fire at 3:19 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. The home is located at 5717 W. Quail Drive, Mentone.
A full assist was requested from Mentone and tanker assist from Claypool.
Firefighters found the fire began in the kitchen. According to Kevin McSherry, Burket Fire Chief, the homeowner, James Hurd, had put a skillet on the stop to remove grease. The skillet overheated and started a fire in the kitchen, which then spread to the attic.
Firefighters were able to cut holes in the gable end of the home to vent the attic area. No holes were necessary to be cut in the roof for ventilation.
There was fire, smoke, heat and water damage to the home.
Firefighters were on the scene for approximately two hours.
