LARWILL — The following Whitko Community School students have been named students of the month for November 2024.

Amy Brown

Whitko’s senior student of the month is Amy Brown.

She was nominated by Antimony Fox, who said: “Amy is involved in a wide variety of activities in and out of school. She has so much school spirit — she’s always looking for ways to make the school better and provide experiences for herself and her classmates. She doesn’t let all of her activities get in the way of her academics and maintains a high quality of work. She communicates ahead of time to make sure she gets her work done when she’s going to be gone. She is great to talk to both in and out of the classroom whether it is about content or life.

Alena Hindbaugh

Alena Hindbaugh is the Whitko junior student of the month.

She was nominated by teacher Mike Hanback, who said: “This is a young lady who cares, is a great student, has a wonderful work ethic and an attitude of service. She participates in class, asks for assistance if needed and has a positive attitude about school and life, and a great smile that brightens the classroom. She is also a great role model to others and is willing to step in to help someone else who is struggling with a problem. All in all, a very well-rounded young woman.”

Addison Patrick

The Whitko sophomore student of the month is Addison Patrick.

She was nominated by teacher Mike Hanback, who said: “Addie works hard for the grades she gets, and she gets great grades. She cares about her education and is very active around the school. She is caring, thoughtful and polite. Others look up to her. In the classroom, she helps keep things light with her wit and comments, she asks for help if needed and will help others if asked, and she smiles easily, making my room a more pleasant place to be for a period each day.”

John Deckena

John Deckena is the Whitko freshman student of the month.

He was nominated by teacher Molly Long, who said: “John is a standout freshman whose active participation and leadership bring so much to our classroom community. He eagerly shares his insights during literary discussions, offering thoughtful analysis that enhances our collective understanding. John consistently responds when called upon and volunteers his help wherever needed, setting a positive example for his peers. His enthusiasm and encouragement motivate his classmates to put forth their best effort, fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment. John’s dedication and contributions make him a deserving candidate for student of the month.”

Jenna Hubbard

The Whitko eighth-grade student of the month is Jenna Hubbard.

She was nominated by school nurse Ashley Hinds, who said: “Jenna is respectful, caring and willing to help any time she is asked. She strives to help others and takes pride in being a good friend. She is active in the Sunshine Society, Peacekeepers and cheer leading just to name a few activities. I am very proud of the amount of maturity Jenna shows, especially when things become difficult; she always gets through with a smile.”

Madalyn Brubaker

Madalyn Brubaker is the Whitko seventh-grade student of the month.

She was nominated by teacher Sara Skow, who said: “Madalyn has a positive, happy outlook on life and always tries to do what I ask of her in class. She is kind to her classmates and shows respect to others.”

Alexa Culp

The Whitko Career Academy student of the month is Alexa Culp.

She was nominated by teacher Megan Lindsey, who said: “Alexa has been a great addition to the Business Education and Marketing Program this school year. Even though she is one of my younger students, a sophomore, she has jumped right in to be a leader and make a difference in the program. She is really creative when it comes to T-shirt designs and has been a big part of the success of several apparel projects and orders we have completed this fall. She communicates very well, leads in the classroom and also connects with and encourages others. She has developed and improved her skills already in the first few months of school, and I am excited to see how she continues to grow and lead in the business program in the future.”
