Syracuse Public Library — Film Series Wraps Up With ‘Pokagon Band of Potawatomi’
News Release
SYRACUSE — The Syracuse Public Library will finish its historical film series with “Pokagon Band of Potawatomi: A Song for Everything” at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the Syracuse Community Center.
“Pokagon Band of Potawatomi” explores how culture and language have survived the pressures of colonialism, government oppression and modern-day life. This documentary’s showing is possible through a partnership with PBS Michiana WNIT and the Syracuse Parks and Recreation Department. During the showing, the library will provide refreshments.
This film series is a part of Syracuse Public Library’s “One State/One Story” programming, which included a book discussion of “All That She Carried” by Tiya Miles and a traveling local artifact exhibit.
“All One State/One Story” programming was possible because of a grant from Indiana Humanities. “One State/One Story: All That She Carried” is presented by Indiana Humanities in partnership with the Indiana Center for the Book and the Indiana State Library as part of Indiana Humanities’ Advancing Racial Equity Project, supported by Lilly Endowment.
Thanksgiving Closing
The Syracuse Public Library will close Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28-29, in observance of Thanksgiving. Normal hours resume on Saturday, Nov. 30.
Young Adult Holiday Party
Teens can embrace the holiday spirit during the library’s young adult holiday party from 4-5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, in the Rosalyn Jones Room. During the party, teens will decorate the room and complete Christmas crafts. As always, the library will provide tasty snacks.
Graphic Novels Club
The young adult graphic novels club will read “The Faint of Heart” by Kerilynn Wilson in December. Part speculative fiction and part cautionary tale, “The Faint of Heart” questions morality and the feelings, which seem too big to contain in a world where people have removed their hearts to avoid strong emotions. Copies are available at Syracuse Public Library.
A discussion will take place from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, in the Rosalyn Jones Room. For information, contact Amber Cox at [email protected].
Children’s Programming
Four spaces remain open for the next four-week session of art club. Registered children, ages 7-11, will paint a winter ornament scene a little at a time at 4 p.m. each Monday, starting Nov. 25. The project is anticipated to run until the week of Dec. 16, though it may wrap up on Dec. 9.

There will be no home-school class or story time session during the week of Nov. 25.
