Wildcats Whip Wayne
SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko softball team rolled past Fort Wayne Wayne 22-2 Thursday night.
Shelby Martin had three hits, including an inside-the-park home run, to lead the Wildcats. She drove in seven runs in the five-inning win.
Kennedy Krull reached base four times for the hosts. Maddie Gawthrop and Whitney Marsh each also had three hits for the winners.
Haley Yohe had a double and a triple for Whitko. Winning pitcher Aly Nicodemus had a two-hitter with four strikeouts.
Whitko plays at Churubusco Friday night.
The Whitko junior varsity team edged host Fort Wayne Carroll 4-3 Thursday.
Jaima Ferguson smacked an RBI double in the final inning to tie the game. She then scored the winning run on a passed ball.
Tressa Keim belted a three-run homer for the Wildcats. Tori Silveus notched the pitching win in relief.
The Whitko JV squad will host Columbia City for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
