Triton Sports Wrap – May 16
A big first inning helped the Triton softball team collect a big win Friday evening.
The Trojans scored three times in the opening frame and then held on to edge host Jimtown 4-3 in Northern State Conference play.
Standout ace Mallorie Jennings fired a four-hitter in the circle to lead the way to the win for Triton. The senior struck out nine and walked three. She also had two hits.
The Trojans plated three runs in their first at bat. Krystal Sellers delivered an RBI single and Allyson Brown had a sacrifice fly.
Hannah Jennings led the offense for the winners by going 3-3 at the dish. Sellers added two hits for the Trojans in the win.
Bailey Clark led Jimtown with two hits.
Tennis Team Has Strong Showing
The Triton tennis team, led by Kylie Mason, turned in a fine effort Friday in the first round of the conference tournament.
Mason, playing at No. 3 singles, upset No. 2 seed Priscilla Jeffrey of Jimtown 6-2, 7-5 in the NSC tournament held at New Prairie.
Kaelyn Mason won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for the Trojans. Shayla May posted a 6-0, 6-1 twin at No. 2 singles.
The Trojans also got a straight set win from its No. 1 doubles team of Holly Stogsdill and Carrie Slabaugh.
The No. 2 doubles duo of Cassie Irons and Michal Scherer-Berry lost 6-1, 6-3 to the No. 2 seeded team from New Prairie.
