Mentone Youth League Urging Pushups For Charity Participants
Mentone Youth League is hosting an official Pushups for Charity event during the Mentone Egg Festival at the little league diamonds. The event is part of the nationwide 5th Annual Pushups for Charity, which kicked off Armed Forces Day, on May 17 and lasts until the ‘Final Push’ on June 28 in Washington, D.C.
There will be several smaller pushup challenges held before the “final push” at the Mentone Youth League. The Warsaw Tiger Football program will host a pushup-a-thon on Thursday, May 29. Another event at the Akron Elementary that is open to the public will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 23.
Some of the other sponsors, such as Midwest Auto and Tire and Pike Lumber Company, will be holding private pushup events. Then the “final push” at the MYL from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 7, will be the end of the event locally. At this event there will also be a silent auction and prizes. Everyone is invited to support the 1.4 million veterans who sacrifice so much to maintain the freedoms we enjoy every day.
“This event came about because of my love and passion for fitness and my heart for our veterans. So when I came across PushUps for Charity, it was a perfect opportunity to raise awareness, promote patriotism, support our returning heroes, and get people to do some pushups” stated Cassandra Pontious, event host.
Pontious also stated the event will be in memory of her grandfather, William Pontious, who spent 27 months in a Chinese Communist Prison Camp in North Korea. In his honor she is asking people to do just 27 pushups or donate $27 in memory of his sacrifice.
Through the 5th Annual Pushups for Charity, Americans throughout the country will show their support of the 1.4 million men and women who are currently serving by doing as many pushups as they can in 90 seconds. Pushups for Charity’s goal is to have Americans complete 1.4 million pushups and raise $1 million to serve troops through the Boot Campaign, which helps veterans by providing jobs, housing, education, wellness, urgent assistance and family support. In past years, Pushups for Charity has raised more than $600,000 for the Boot Campaign.
Devote 90 seconds to pushups and you will make a life-changing impact on the lives of those who bravely serve our country. Join the Strength Academy Pushups for Charity team HERE.
