INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Today Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman’s Symosium on Rurual Philanthropy is providing community leaders real ideas. The symposium is taking place now until 3:30 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Columbus.

Skillman says the goal is to create partnerships that will stimulate rural economies and engage youth. The event was expected to attract more than 150 community, foundation and economic officials from throughout the state.

Sessions are designed to help create partnership opportunities and offer ideas to encourage clients, families and residents to give back and invest in their rural communities.

“Although vast improvements have been made over the years in our rural communities, there is still more work to be done,” Lt. Governor Becky Skillman said. “It requires that everyone has seat at the table to ensure rural communities remain viable and prosperous for generations come.”

Other feautred speakers include Charles W. Fluharty, president an CEO of the Rural Policy Research Institute, and Michael Hicks, director of Ball State’s Center for Business and Economic Research.
