LEITERS FORD, Ind. – Indiana State Police are investigating an incident early Sunday morning that has claimed the life of a Rochester man.

According to a press release, at approximately 1:44 a.m. Sunday, officers from the Indiana State Police and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Leiters Ford Tavern, at 5 N. Main St. in Leiters Ford, in response to a report of a man being injured in the bar.

Upon arrival, officers found Tony Coleman, 38, of Rochester, lying unconscious on the floor of the bar. Coleman was transported by ambulance to Rochester’s Woodlawn Hospital. He was pronounced dead at approximately 2:47 a.m.

A preliminary criminal investigation by Indiana State Police Detective Tony Frawley revealed that Coleman allegedly had been consuming alcohol in the Leiters Ford Tavern. Coleman, who appeared to be intoxicated, was making his way toward the bar’s exit when, for an undetermined reason, Zachary Clark, 33, of Peru, Ind., allegedly hit Coleman in the head with a closed fist.

Coleman fell to the ground unconscious. At this time, police say the attack appears unprovoked. Clark had also been consuming alcohol at the tavern and was also believed to be intoxicated at the time of the attack.

Clark was located in the vicinity of the tavern and transported to the Fulton County Jail. He faces a preliminary charge of aggravated battery.
