The Monroe School is holding a reunion from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, at the Pierceton Elementary School gym.

In 1917, Monroe was one of six small schools in Monroe Township that was consolidated into Monroe Consolidated Schools. A new building was built  on land located on 600 South and State Road 13 south of Pierceton. There were six total rooms. Each room had a coal stove for heat until the 60’s when a new coal furnace was installed in the basement.

The new building was named Monroe Township Consolidated School and was moved into in January 1917. In the fall of 1953, one of the second story classrooms was converted into a cafeteria with Clara Steiner serving as cook. Clara served as cook until the school was closed in 1969 and the students were transferred to either Pierceton or Sidney Elementary.
