Kosciusko 4-H to Run for 4-H 5K
Warsaw – The Kosciusko County 4-H program is promoting one facet of the 4-H program – Health – by holding the third annual Kosciusko Run for 4-H 5K at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds near Winona Lake. For the second year, the organization will also be holding a free Children’s Fun Run, open to pre-K thru 4th Grade students, at 9:15 a.m. All Fun Run participants will receive a prize.
Race-day registration will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:10 a.m. near the Home and Family Arts Building at the Kosciusko County Community Fairgrounds. The race will then proceed from the fairgrounds through Winona Lake and then end back at the fairgrounds. Awards will be given in each age category, and special 4-H style banners will be awarded to the overall male, female and youth (14 and under) participants.
“Health is one of the four H’s that constitutes the 4-H program,” said Kosciusko’s Youth Extension Educator Melinda Wise. “We are excited to be able to host an event that promotes this important part of the 4-H program and helps us raise funds for other important 4-H activities. We are also proud that our youth organization offers special recognition for the winner of our youth race category.”
This is the fourth year for the 5K race and first year for the children’s fun run. All proceeds raised from the event will go to fund 4-H and youth development activities in the county including the Kosciusko County 4-H Fair.
“More than 700 youth are involved in 4-H programming in Kosciusko County,” said Wise. “In addition to traditional events like the 4-H Fair, our 4-H program also serves youth through classroom activities and partnerships with other non-profit organizations.”
The reduced-price pre-registration period ends September 17. However, people may still register up until the day of the race for a fee of $20.
