Hither & Yon: Furniture for Education
by Miriam Haag Junior Reporter
If you are looking to help further a child’s education and love furniture, then Hither & Yon, a non-for-profit store in the Warsaw area is for you. “We sell home decor for many types of shoppers – whether you are searching for a unique piece of furniture or a fun throw pillow to update your room, we have it!” says owner Laurie Victa. The shop was started when Victa was graciously offered a space in The Nest-Home Furniture and Design by Heather Marshall. She was also offered, “a large inventory of home goods from designer Susan Grill in order to raise money to help others.” “It really was a group effort!” she says.
Unfortunately, Hither & Yon will soon be closing. The last two days at its current location are Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26. After the store closes, they will feature the same wonderful creations but at different venues. The first will be an all-day event on Saturday, October 18 at Rodeheaver in Winona Lake Village. The event will start at 9 a.m. and an auction will be held at 3 p.m. for unique and intricate pieces. If all goes well, they will continue to hold events starting in the spring of 2015.
Hither & Yon is truly dedicated to education. The store donates 100 percent of its proceeds to educate African children. “Our goal [this year] is to raise the money needed to add more children to our program. We would love to help more than the current 15 children to finish school. Many of these children would not be getting an education without the generosity of our shoppers!” says Victa. You can follow the store on Instagram or Facebook to see sneak peeks for the upcoming October event and much more. “We are excited to [continue to] partner with them [the organization] to give the gift of education!” adds Victa.
