IDOE Releases Area School’s ISTEP Scores
The Indiana Department of Education released statewide and local 2014 ISTEP+ scores today. The test is distributed to students in third to eighth grade.
Statewide, 80.7 percent of Indiana students passed the English and language arts portion of the test, an increase from the 79.5 percent of students who passed in 2013. A total of 83.5 percent of students passed the math portion of the test, which was up slightly from the 83 percent that passed last year. Cumulatively, a total of 74.7 percent of Indiana students passed both the English and language arts and math tests, which was an increase to the 73.7 percent last year.
Locally, Warsaw Community School Corporation was above the state average in all test areas. Total, the corporation boasted a total of 2,636 students passing the English and language arts portion of the test, which is a total of 83.9 percent of test takers. In addition, math test results showed that a total of 2,664 students passed, equal to 84.4 percent of those tested. Cumulatively, 77.6 percent of students passed both tests.
Wawasee Community School Corporation saw slightly lower ISTEP pass rates than the state average. WCSC had a total of 1,049 students pass the English and language arts portion of the ISTEP, which is equivalent to 76.3 percent. In math, Wawasee had a total of 1,130 students pass the test, or 81.8 percent. The total percentage of students who passed both tests at WCSC is 69.9 percent.
Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation was just below the state average as well with a total of 694 students passing the English and language arts test or 79.9 percent of test takers. In math, a total of 692 students passed which is equal to 79.5 percent. Total, TVS saw 72.4 percent of students pass both the English and language arts and math tests.
Whitko Schools were fairly comparable to TVSC’s scores. A total of 547 students passed the English section of the ISTEP test, which is equivalent to 79.7 percent of test takers. The math test saw 542 passing students which is equal to 78.9 percent. A total of 72.3 percent of test takers passed both the math and English and language arts sections of the test.
In response to the Indiana statewide ISTEP test results, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz issued the following statement: “This year, we saw yet another increase in student performance indicated through ISTEP. I want to congratulate Indiana’s students, parents, teachers and administrators for all their hard work this past year. These increased scores are just one sign of the great learning that is happening in Indiana Schools.”
