North Webster Library Announcements
The numbers are in, and this year’s youth Summer Reading Program broke all previous records with 391 children and teens reading a whopping total of 6,390 hours over the summer. The Summer Reading Program culminated with a Grand Finale Picnic attended by youth readers and their families as they enjoyed their picnic suppers and played in the bouncy house with lots of prizes for everyone.
The top children’s department readers were: Marcus Ervin, who logged 84 hours of reading, and Maria Saunders, Anna Saunders and Shayleen Crites, all tying with 80 hours each. The top teen readers were: Rachel Fishburn reading 234 hours, Kasey Gunkel with 228 hours and Samuel Fishburn with 208.
A big thank-you goes out to all the many area businesses and organizations who donated prizes and supplies to promote summer reading in our community. A complete list of sponsors is available on the library’s website at www.nweb.lib.in.us.
On the Adult side, R.N. Mary Erb will present a program on, “Stress: What It Does to Our Diet and What Our Diet Does to Stress” during Lose It @ The Library at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11.
Each Monday participants in the library’s weekly weight loss support program gather to support one another in their quest to lose weight. Every meeting starts off with a confidential weigh-in to chart their progress. On the first and third Monday each month, the group walks the corridors of the North Webster Community Center following weigh-in while informative programs are given on the second and fourth weeks. Anyone interested in learning how to safely lose weight and stay healthy is encouraged to attend free of charge. You don’t even need a library card to participate.
It’s coming up soon – the library’s annual Cemetery Walk is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7. This is a local living history event in which costumed enactors portray persons buried in the North Webster Cemetery, telling their stories, recounting past times, and recreating local history. The enactors are stationed throughout the cemetery next to the graves of the persons they are personating as tour guides lead groups through the cemetery.
Free entertainment and refreshments are all part of the event, so be sure to mark your calendars for Sept. 7 and don’t miss the annual Cemetery Walk that draws people from miles around.
If you have a library card from any of the more than 100 libraries that participate in the statewide Evergreen Library System, you can use your card at the North Webster Library to borrow books and materials. Likewise, a North Webster Library card will be honored at other Evergreen libraries as well. There are many Evergreen libraries in our area including Syracuse, Milford, Noble County, Shipshewana, Topeka and others. So bring your Evergreen card in and check out some books.
